Fishers describes itself as a bistro but the noun does have enough pizzazz for a venue which produces food of such quality. Fishers is right on the Shore of Leith and in sunny weather puts tables and chairs outside its white walls so you can eat and drink in the Scottish summer.

Fishers is known for its fantastic sea food and on my visit it lived up to its reputation. Shredded beef with chilli dip is an excellent starter and I followed it with corn stuffed chicken with egg noodles on a plumb sauce. Of course, this makes me something of a heathen as I failed to take the sea option. Take heed though, if you're a "non fishy" among a family of fish fiends then Fishers is still an excellent choice.

The set menu offered starter, main and desert for about £25. That's neither cheap nor terribly expensive. For the businesses in the area; Leith's new crop of dotcoms and the popular Scottish Executive, Fishers is perfect location for client lunches. As a result of this booking is absolutely required for the bistro as you are highly unlikely to get a table otherwise. Ronnie Corbett is also a regular and can often be sighted sitting near the window.

Fishers is not terribly large. The space is used well, typically with tall tables and high chairs which allow many people to gather around but on occasion it is a bit of a clumsy effort to get into your seat. Climbing off your seat once you have had far too much to eat is often rather more clumsy.

The staff at Fishers tend to be good too. They're friendly and relatively fast. The service could be a wee bit quicker but not that much and any slowdown is simply due to the bistro's popularity.

Fishers Bistro (not to be mistaken for Fishers in the City) is certainly recommended.
